The partners of the SUCCEED Network project were invited to participate in the 1st International Conference on Energy Accessibility and Efficiency of the ENRICH project.
The main objective of the 1st edition of this International Conference was to bring together top management staff and researchers from the Higher Education Sector, managers from the energy sector and other potential stakeholders in the energy field that were willing to exchange ideas and promote an effective collaboration in the East African countries.
The International Conference facilitated the organisation of two roundtables; the first one focused on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) support services on energy Access and efficiency; and the second on future areas of co-operation in the energy sectors.
A SUCCEED Network partner from Makerere University was a member of the panel board in the second roundtable, and the other project participants actively contributed to the discussions as members of the audience.
One of the international conference objectives was to identify potential synergies and possible collaborative actions that promotes regional cooperation among academia, researchers, industries and policy makers in the East African. In this line, one of the main objectives of the Succeed participation in this 1st International Conference of the Enrich project was to identify potential collaborative actions between the two projects.
The Conference was attended by the project partners of both projects from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi; and also by the Directorate of Research Management and Development (DRMD) of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kenya; the Ministry of Communication Science and Technology of Tanzania; the Tanzanian Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH); the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST); the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA); the Tanzania Academy of Sciences and the United Nations Development Organisation (UNIDO); and by several external experts in the energy and environment sectors.
Further to the conference, a joint coordination meeting between the two projects took place on the 9th of October. The aim of the joint coordination meeting was to work out possible synergy activities that would facilitate the sustainability of both project results.
The ENRICH project aims to promote regional co-operation in the energy and environment sector of East African countries by establishing three national networks to support science, technology and innovation (STI) and a regional portal with a database of experts.
